PADI Advanced Diver

The PADI Advanced Open Water course is the next step in diver education after completion of the open water course. Students will complete five dives with the Instructor and have the opportunity to specialize in three areas of diving that interests them.

Why take the advanced course?

If you are newly certified the advanced course is a great way to gain more diving experience with an instructor, review those buoyancy skills and learn some new diving skills. During the advanced course you will learn cute deephow to safely exeer dives, navigate using a combination of compass and natural references and specialize in your choice of diving activities. There are many to choose from, for a complete list you can visit the PADI website. If you already have been diving for a while and never took the advanced course there are still benefits. Better gas consumption, trim, dive planning and navigational skills are just a few of the abilities you will gain from the course.

The advanced course requires the student to complete the deep dive (30m/100ft) and the underwater navigation dive. These two dives will teach you how to safely execute deeper dives and navigate using a combination of compass and natural references. The remaining three dives are the student's choice and range from wreck diving to fish identification. PADI Advanced divers are certified to dive to a maximum depth of 30m/100ft and engage in specialized diving activities such as deep diving and drift diving.

  • Deep Dive (required)

The deep adventure dive is a requirement for the advanced course; this adventure dive includes a review of dive table/computer use, dive profiles, ascent rates and safety stops. The dive will be planned to a maximum depth of 30 m/100ft and we will look at the differences between the digital and analog depth gauge, color loss with depth, record our breathing rates and gas consumption and conduct a nitrogen narcosis test at depth.

  •  Navigation Dive (required)

Underwater navigation is an important skill to learn as a diver, during this course we will focus on navigating underwater while maintaining our buoyancy, using natural references for navigation and methods of estimating distance underwater. This dive is typically done at a shallow water dive site in order to maximize our time to practice these skills.

  •  AWARE Fish Identification

Using the principles of fish identification students will identify a number of fish species that they observe on their dive. Characteristics of fish shapes, markings, habitat and behavior will all be used to identify the species and expand the student's knowledge of the underwater world.

  •  Digital Underwater Photography

This dive will be tailored to the request of the student diver and will largely depend on the student's camera setup. We will examine techniques for composition, white balance, exposure and post dive editing techniques. Students will also learn proper body positioning to minimize contact with aquatic life.

  •  Drift Diving

If executed properly, drift diving can be a rewarding way to explore a dive site, allowing the divers to cover more ground and have the opportunity to observe more marine life. Students will learn the techniques used in drift diving including current checks, surface marker and surface float use.

  •  Multilevel & Computer Dive

For those who would like to learn more about dive planning or don't want to rely solely on their dive computer for dive planning than this adventure dive is for you. Using a combination of V-planner diving software and dive computers students will learn advanced techniques for conducting multilevel dives, multiple dives per day and calculating surface interval requirements.

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy

Buoyancy is the most important skill that student divers will learn in their diving career; however most stop practicing it after the open water course. This adventure dive will include a review of the buoyancy skills in the open water course and a set of new skills with practice in both deep and shallow water.

  •  Search & Recovery Dive

If you like compass work than this dive is for you, students will learn a few different search patterns and techniques for recovering a lost item underwater and also the proper use of a lift bag to bring those items to the surface.

  •  Underwater Naturalist

This dive examines the relationships between marine organisms and includes topics such as food webs, marine productivity and symbiosis. Students will not only identify marine species from each of the major groups of animals; fish, corals and invertebrates but learn how they interact with each other.

  •  Wreck Diving

This dive is an introduction to wreck diving and has only a few performance requirements, mainly the identification of potential hazards and possible entry and exit points.
